Funny Girl

50th Anniversary Screening at Red River Theatres

A Special Event with (and for!) Community Players:
Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, 1:30 to 4:30 pm

A special 50th Anniversary Screening of the popular 1968 movie FUNNY GIRL starring Barbra Streisand and Omar Sharif will be shown at Red River Theatres. Nominated for 8 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Streisand – already a star of stage, nightclubs and recordings at age 25 – took home the Oscar for Best Actress in her knockout movie debut as the famous Ziegfeld comedienne, Fanny Brice. Based on the 1964 stage hit, FUNNY GIRL traces Fanny Brice’s rise to fame from the Lower East Side and her bittersweet relationship with gambler Nicky Arnstein (Omar Sharif) in the theatrical world of the early 1920s. The musical score features the songs “I’m The Greatest Star,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade” and the Streisand classic, “People.” Red River will be screening the newest digital restoration of the film, provided by Sony Pictures.

Jim Webber will host the event, which features a brief fashion show, “Intermission Fashions from The Ziegfeld Era,” with some period costumes from Community Players’ archives. Players to appear (schedules permitting): Nora McBurnett, Katie Griffiths, Tess Hodges, Katie Proulx and Seraphim Afflick.

Don’t miss this special afternoon at the movies (3 hour event: welcome, film and intermission) and know that a portion of your admission goes to support Community Players of Concord, NH!

Regular Admission $13. Seniors and Red Red River Members $11. Tickets at Red River Theatres website.
