Join Us For A Play Reading of Kinds!
Join Us for a Play Reading Evening
Friday, March 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, at the Players Studio, 435 Josiah Bartlett Road, Concord, NH.
We’ll be gathering informally to read Kinds – a two-act play by Phil Jones (2025). In the year 2169, a space station between the orbits of Uranus and Neptune is on the frontier of exploration. Subject to continuous acceleration, the station now approaches the speed of light (186,000 miles per second) – a hitherto untested (and traditionally inviolate) limit of nature. The combined efforts of humans and machines (who now are nearly identical physically) have enabled both to reach this threshold, but will the potential knowledge and power to be gained by successfully breaking the light barrier lead to conflict? Of course. The stakes could not be higher. Human Intelligence vs. Artificial Intelligence? Humanity vs. Mechanization. This two-act play (with intermission) suggests one possible view of the conflict and one possible outcome.
These readings are a wonderful way to hear new plays as well as old favorites and to try your play reading skills in a relaxed, friendly environment. Bring a snack and your creativity. All are welcome. For more information or to save your spot, please contact Workshop Coordinator Cindy Dickinson at [email protected]
